Day 6 - Monday, August 3, 2026
My mum is the fairy in the kitchen and she prepared a feast for breakfast.
After that, we bid farewell, they had to return to Vienna (which by then was a bit less hot). As for me, I took a few more turns in town, then started riding in a northerly direction.
My plan was to head for the restaurant from the previous day, in the middle of nowhere. The thing is that this nowhere was a really pretty area. I must have taken a wrong turn, did not quite make it there, still, where I was then riding was still quite nice.
On my map, I noticed a castle, tucked up in the woods and decided to head for it. Alas, it was closed - and had a weird encounter. It was an 18-year-old guy, very dry, with no sense of humor - he was waiting for some friend of his. His English was perfect, as he had travelled around singing in a choir. OK, I guess this was not really interesting, was it?
Truth being told, while I enjoyed my ride, it was "nothing special", as someone I know would put it. I rode through some pretty towns (the names of a few I would not recall in a thousand years). There was Trhové Sviny with a nice church, Borovany with a baroque castle - but the nicest was Trebon, with a castle from the Renaissance era. I could not miss the large number of fishponds around the town, which were established in the Middle Ages. According to Wikipedia, one of the ponds is the largest in the world. Who would have thought?
After visiting one more town with a difficult name, Lomnice nad Lužnicí, I decided to wild camp on the shore ofa lake, which, I believe, was called Vlkovská pískovna. Anyhow, I had a nice, long swim in the evening.
It was some 86 kilometers with 820 meters of elevation that I cycled that day.
